I'm just going to throw a few ideas in the air as this seems strange to me. Is your router set to broadcast it's SSID? The SSID is the network name and you can set some routers up not to broadcast their SSID - this means that you can only connect to them if you know the name. This is a security feature that you'd set if you didn't want others to see your network during a network scan. To fix this would be a matter of going into your router settings and setting the Broadcast SSID to Yes, instead of No. Is your router set to filter MAC addresses? Again, another security feature, but you can set up your router to only speak to computers it knows about based on their MAC address. The MAC address is a unique address to all computers and you can basically set your router to only speak to computers you have told it to, to prevent unauthorised access. Again, this would be in the router settings under "MAC Address Filtering ". Did you buy your Acer netbook in a different country? This is unlikely to be the issue but I thought I'd mention it. Wireless is ever so slightly different in other countries, to do with channel allocations. USA WIFI uses channels 1-11 and UK WIFI uses 12 and 13 as well, which would be a problem is your router was set to use channel 12 or 13 and your Acer netbook was looking only from channel 1-11. Again you can set the channel used in your router settings, so this issue can still be solved. Hope this helps with your issue. |
