Question: Installing operating system on a refurbished netbook?

I have the dvd drived plugged into the netbook with the operating system disk inside. now its giving me three options on which partition to select to install xp on. 3 choices.... partitioned space on on "C: Partition1 (Fat32) "/ "Unpartitioned space 4MB/ Unpartitioned space 15626 " I want a completely fresh start, using up as little space as possible, if that affects my selection here... in order to use as little space as possible do i need to delete that partitioned space & create a new one to do so

Yes delete all partitions and create two new ones. Allot enough space for your operating system and applications on the main partition. 30GB will do but add a little more if you intend to install games as well. To me, 50GB for drive C is too much. Give the rest to the second partition (drive D) where you will be saving your documents. Use NTFS instead of FAT32 as it is faster and more efficient in storing files. Don't worry if later you find that the space on drive C is too big or too little to store you other applications. You can easily adjust/ resize it on the fly without data loss by using the free Easeus Partition Master: partition-tool.com/

Delete all partitions, create a 30gb one, then store XP in it

I think you can use FAT32 on a hard drive up to a little over 30 GIGS, I would use NTFS for any higher of a drive.
