My mom has a netbook, it's just a mini, weaker laptop basically. It can run office, probably ipod too. Depends on which one you get. The one my mom got can actually play WoW. With like 20fps, but still. |

A netbook is basically a small laptop. It's not good for heavy gaming or programming, but it's excellent for most things if you are an average computer user. You can use Microsoft Word on it just fine. You can use an iPod. It will basically feel like using a small laptop. If you get a decent netbook, you might not even notice the difference between it and a laptop, besides the size. Some netbooks are up to 12 ", and the smallest are 8 ", which I wouldn't recommend. Mine is a 10 " Acer netbook, and I've had it for a year. I use it pretty much every day, for internet/ AIM/ music/ Word, and it runs fine. I'd definitely recommend one. The main thing people complain about is lack of a disc drive, but it hasn't bothered me much. You can always purchase a USB disc drive for anywhere from $20 to $200 on amazon, depending on the quality you want in one. |

A netbook can run anything a laptop can except they don't have a cd drive, and they have lighter specifications. If you look at budget laptops vs. netbooks, you can see that both usually come with similar specs. 1 gig of ram, windows 7 or xp, 160 gig hard drive, and a 1.6ghz processor. Besides having no cd drive and budget laptop specs, they are smaller so typing takes a little getting used to, but they aren't so small you can't take notes in class or type an essay on one. I would get one if you don't use a lot of cd's, are on a budget, and don't need to run big programs like big video games. As far as running things like office or an ipod, you can absolutely do that. They are also pretty cheap. This is the one I have and it costs 250 w/ free shipping. compusa.com/ applications/ SearchTools/ item-details.asp?EdpNo= 5642147 &CatId= 4953 |
